With her bold colors and strong images, you can tell that Jodie Bobo is a fan of pop art and contemporary design. Influenced by colorist and textile designer, Alexander Girard, Jodie injects whimsy and humor into her large scale works. Acrylic paints are her most frequent medium, but she is open to experimenting in other media.
She credits her aunt for encouraging her to get serious about developing her artistic gifts. During a three and a half year period when her son battled leukemia, Jodie spent many afternoons escaping into her sketchbook to balance out the intensity of the time. Upon seeing the sketchbook, her aunt's positive response led Jodie to invest more time in her painting.
Many of Jodie's images begin as ideas that "just pop into my head" and then take shape in her sketchbook. She prefers to paint on a flat horizontal surface, using a pair of trusty sawhorses as a platform. This allows Jodie to literally walk around her work as it develops and produce larger pieces than if she used an easel.
Born in Daytona Beach, Jodie has made a wide circle back to her native state after following her husband's career around the country. Happy to be at the stage in her life where her sons are teenagers, she relishes in her "me time" in the studio now.
