Debe Abbott

Debe Abbott is an award winning artist working in several mediums including pastel, acrylic, oil and mixed media. Inspired by her aunt Joan Stier, who is an established regional artist in New York, Abbott began painting as a teen. She attended Bauder Fashion College in Miami in the early 1970s and went on to study art at Huntingdon College in England and Monterey Peninsula College in California. She has subsequently taken workshops with Edwin Adamson, Albert Handell, Doug Dawson and Christine Debrosky among others.

A major breakthrough for her career came in 1990 when renowned art critic Clement Greenberg selected Abbott's painting “Kilimanjaro“ as Best Work on Paper at the Canastota, NY Small Scale Show. She was later published in the New York Art Review and soon signed a contract with the Elhoff Gallery in Syracuse.

Her work has been in galleries and fine art shows from Maine to California and Toronto to Florida. She has appeared on public television and has been featured in numerous publications.

In 2004 she was selected by the Art in Embassies Program of the US Department of State to be an Art Ambassador to the US Embassy in San Salvador, El Salvador. She was inducted into the National League of American Pen Women as a full art member in 2005.

She maintains seasonal studios in Sanford, Florida and Bernhards Bay, New York.
