Kathleen Marie Pequignot is originally from New York, where she began her art studies in traditional oil painting techniques at the Bethlehem Art Studio at the age of fourteen. In 1985 Kathleen received a BA from Stetson University in Deland, Florida. While attending Stetson, she studied art design, watercolors, acrylics, oils, drawing, and calligraphy with Fred Messersmith.
She began selling her art on the internet in 1998, and her work is held in private collections throughout the world. Kathleen finds inspiration from the varied works of Cezanne, Degas, Miro, Braque, Kandinsky, and the German Expressionists. She is currently exploring the use of geometric patterns to express reality and enjoys layering bold acrylic colors to achieve depth and richness to both canvas and paper. Collage elements and the use of charcoal, ink, and pastel are used in many of her works.
She enjoys sketching from nature, experimenting with various mixed-media projects, keeping artist journals filled with design ideas, collage, and original poetry, painting miniature art, and designing original, hand-painted polymer beads.
She is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. In October of 2007, Kathleen completed her teaching certification for grades K-12 and is an active volunteer for the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Her artistic goal is to bring the viewer to a place of enchantment and visual adventure--to explore the nuances of life through color and form!
