Valerie Summers

My background began in teaching in the elementary classroom and private tutoring, various grades and subjects for over twenty years. My studies in art began with drawing when I was a child. I learned some techniques from my father, but most was self-taught. In the 1980's I began taking art classes in acrylic painting as a hobby and have continued painting since. I returned to more formal studies in art and received an art degree in 2000 with the area of specialization in painting.

I enjoy drawing in different mediums, such as charcoal, oil pastels, and scratchboard and painting with acrylics and watercolor. My subjects are people, landscapes, animals, and sometimes just designs. My subject matter tends to be everyday things, done with bold colors and contrast in a more formal or conservative style.

I continue teaching, also now in art with various media. I have always enjoyed showing or explaining how to do something. I like working with all age groups on different levels and abilities.
