A love of art started at an early age for Robert when he entered a drawing contest in a newspaper and won $1. His mother also encouraged him to keep a sketchpad handy and to draw frequently. A graduate of Winter Park High School, Robert took commercial art classes and also completed all the artwork for the 1960 yearbook. It is still one of his proudest accomplishments.
Nature is a constant source of inspiration for him. "I've spent a lot of time out in nature in my canoe, hiking, and surfing. I love nature and wildlife and getting back in the swamps and on the rivers. I want to show people what I've seen and give them a view of Florida that is seldom seen."
Before becoming a full time painter, Robert taught electronics for NASA in South America and worked as a family and alcohol rehabilitation therapist. It wasn't until his family and friends convinced him that he was talented enough to make a living that he decided to quit his day job.
What used to be a hobby has become a full time passion. He maintains a busy travel schedule for outdoor festivals, but is looking forward to slowing down a bit.
Robert offers private lessons and ongoing classes in acrylic painting throughout the year.
Fees: $25 per class if you bring your own materials, $65 per class if teacher provides.
