Mark Seppala

Mark was born in Quincy, MA., grew up in Pembroke, MA, and is a graduate of the
New England School of Art and Design, majoring in Advertising Design and Animation.
He served in the U.S. Navy for 6 years, and one of those years lived in Keflavik,
Iceland, now his favorite vacation hideaway. His dream from childhood was to work
for Walt Disney. In 1989, he was hired as General Manager and Character Artist, for
Disney Theme Park Merchandise in Orlando, Florida. He grew the Disney Design
Group, the design department responsible for the merchandise for the theme parks and
resorts and Disney Cruise Line, from 5 artists to approximately 40, until his retirement
in 2013. He continues to do contract work for that group, now on a freelance basis.
His passion now varies from painting and illustrating, to model building and music. In
his studio at home, he built a 6 foot model of the RMS Titanic, from scratch, not a kit.
It’s now on display at the Gallery On First in Sanford. He also built a replica of the
36” tall Howdy Doody marionette and is sculpting his buddy from the show
Dilly Dally. He also restores vintage bass drums and turns them into coffee tables
with original hand drawn art on the top drumheads. He and his partner, John
Sullivan both have a studio space at The Gallery On First in Sanford.
